by Danny Kirkman

The Lexington Flying Pigs proudly introduce Jason Beck as their Head Coach for the upcoming 2024 Old North State League season.

A true Lexington native, Beck brings an impressive two-decade-long coaching career within North Carolina's premier travel baseball organizations to the Flying Pigs, including eight years at the helm of elite showcase teams.

"I am deeply humbled, honored, and filled with gratitude for the opportunity to lead my hometown team," expressed Beck, a distinguished graduate of North Davidson High School in 1986 who pursued his education at UNC Charlotte. "I extend my heartfelt thanks to Flying Pigs owner Danny Kirkman and General Manager Jordan Chapman for placing their trust in me and affording me this extraordinary chance."

He continued, "Ultimately, my passion for the game of baseball is unwavering, and I pledge to pour my heart and soul into instilling a culture of victory within the Flying Pigs."

Beck recently contributed his expertise to the 2024 USA Prime Coastal team, which achieved a commendable 60th national ranking over the summer. His previous stint with the 2023 USA Prime Coastal team led to an impressive run, culminating in the Sweet 16 of the Perfect Game BCS Championship, a spot in the final 32 of the Perfect Game WWBA National Championship, and an Elite 8 finish in the Prep Baseball Report National Championship.

Notably, Beck's nephew, Austin Beck, soared as the sixth overall pick in the 2017 MLB draft, selected by the Oakland A's. Throughout his coaching career, Beck has mentored numerous players who have gone on to excel at the collegiate level.

He emphasized, "The most valuable and striking achievement any coach and program can boast is the development of exceptional players. Over the years, I've been fortunate to work with athletes possessing not only extraordinary talent, but also an unparalleled drive and character. I will uphold the same standard with the Flying Pigs."

Beck, who also serves as a seasoned official for the North Carolina High School Athletic Association in both baseball and basketball, now enters his 17th year in this capacity. His contributions have been pivotal, including officiating at state championships in 2020 and 2021.

Come May through July, the Flying Pigs are set to mark their fifth season at the revered Holt-Moffitt Stadium in Lexington.
